Objective: This project aims to formally identify active A. thaliana germination stimulants and decipher how soil microorganisms influence their composition and thus the germination of parasitic plants.

Work: 1/ Screening of A. thaliana mutant lines: Mutants impaired for glucosinolate biosynthesis or for myrosinases with be tested with P. ramosa seeds in plates or/and in hydroponic mini-rhizotrons. Parasitic germination and attachments to the roots will be scored and analysed.

2/ Bioguided monitoring of A. thaliana exudates: plant deprived or not in glucosinolates will be grown either in native or sterilised field soils, and both the exudate activity on P. ramosa germination will be scored and the exudated glucosinolates and isothiocyanates will be quantified and analysed. Targeted metabolomics will be done in collaboration with the P2M2 platform, INRAE, Rennes.
